The right operating material is one of the most important factors for satisfactory and economical cleaning of heating surfaces exposed to flue gas.
While there are many types of abrasive media available on the market, most of them are not – or only partially – suitable for use in shot cleaning units. Many of these abrasives are too hard, breaking during their passage through the heat exchanger and forming sharp edges, which leads to excessive wear on both the shot cleaning unit and the tubes of the heating surface.
The “soft steel shot” specially developed for use in shot cleaning units is annealed in a separate process. The material has an asymmetrical shape, which means it bounces across the heating surface in irregular patterns rather than in predictable geometric paths. This results in a significantly improved cleaning effect.
Soft steel balls are generally available from stock in five different sizes. Cast shot can also be used, but we recommend this only for specific applications for example, in systems where the shot cleaning process is rarely activated and wear is therefore not a concern.
For easy handling, the balls are packed in 25 kg bags. As standard, they are supplied in packaging units of 1,000 kg.
Other packaging units are, of course, available on request.
